Wyoming

On February 17, 1951, House Bill 76 of the 1951 Legislative Session was enacted, creating the Wyoming State Board of Architects. Newly inaugurated Governor Frank A. Barrett appointed Sam C. Hutchings of Cheyenne for a one-year term, Leon C. Goodrich of Casper for a two-year term, and Frederic H. Porter of Cheyenne for a three-year term. The initial meeting of the board was held on March 30, 1951. The first order of business was to elect officers. Hutchings was elected as President, Goodrich was elected as Vice-President, and Porter was elected as Secretary/Treasurer. The board then went on to discuss other business items such as the design of the license certificate, numbering sequence, application form design, examination format, seal design, supplies, and payment of expenses.

In 1991, legislation added the regulation of the practice of landscape architecture to the board’s responsibilities, increasing the board’s membership to five and changing the name to the Wyoming State Board of Architects and Landscape Architects.  

In order to enhance the board’s mission to protect the public health, safety, and welfare, the Wyoming Board began subsidizing continuing education and public educational opportunities in the state in 2012 by providing grant fund money to nonprofit entities, with the goal of raising awareness about the value of licensure.

In 2014, the Wyoming Board underwent a fundamental shift, changing board operations from administrative to strategic in order to stay proactive in regulatory matters.
