The Components of Licensure
Education
2014: A degree from a NAAB-accredited program is required.
The board previously allowed licensure based on 12 years of combined education and experience, but changed its statute in 1999 to eliminate this path to licensure and in doing so provided a 12-year grandfather period.
Experience
2001: The IDP is required.
Examination
1963: Missouri begins administering NCARB’s national examination.
1981: NCARB’s national examination is required.
Noteworthy
On July 17, 1981, the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kansas City, MO, played host to a “tea dance.” Every Kansas City native recalls the tragedy that night, when two sky-walks crashed to the lobby floor, killing 114 people and injuring over 200 more. This resulted in the revocation of the licenses of the architect and engineer of record.
