The Components of Licensure
Education
1960: A degree from an approved architectural curriculum of at least four years is required.
1998: A degree from a NAAB-accredited program or an architectural curriculum approved by the board is required.
Experience
1960: Applicants must complete either eight years of experience, or four years and a four-year degree.
2009: The IDP is required.
Examination
1965: The board begins administering NCARB’s exam.
Noteworthy
In 1986, the board’s name was changed to the Territorial Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors, and a public member was added to the board.
At least two of the board’s seven members are required to be female.
In 1998, Guam’s law was changed to allow civil action against non-licensed individuals.
In 2005, the board removed impediments to reciprocity for NCARB-certified architects.
