The Components of Licensure
Education
1969: Applicants without a degree from a NAAB-accredited program can document nine years of experience as an alternative, including years of credit for other college degrees.
2002: Continuing education is required for license renewal.
Experience
1969: Applicants with a degree from a NAAB-accredited program must document three years of experience.
2002: Applicants are required to complete the IDP in addition to the three-year duration requirement, plus additional experience for candidates without a degree from a NAAB-accredited program.
Examination
1969: Vermont starts administering NCARB’s national exams.
Noteworthy
Vermont Board Member William Wiese II served several terms as NCARB’s second vice president and was deeply involved in the development of the ARE. When he left the Board of Directors, he became the first and only person to receive the title of “Honorary Past President.”
